About me:

Hello . . . I’m the funky felter, a.k.a Shalana. I live in the wonderful metro area of Kansas City, MO, U.S.A., with my husband, dog, and rabbit. My other job is teaching college level graphic arts courses for a local college, but my passion is fiber arts and, of course, felting!

SO WHAT IS FELT?
It’s a non woven piece of matted material made from wool, hair, or fur. My felted items are not woven before fulling (shrinking), but rather are created directly from wool fibers through wet felting, needle felting, or both. Wet felting involves applying extremely hot water, soap, and agitation to layers of carded wool. The wool will eventually “felt” where the fibers interlock and shrink forming a durable piece of nonwoven material. Needle felting involves using long barbed needles and repeatedly poking at the wool to interweave the fibers and form surface design or sculptural items. I use both skilled processes to create my funky one-of-a-kind items. You may also find unique non-felted art because I do have many creative passions.
